Step up your fresh breath game!
This!!! This is the step I was missing in my oral care routine. I was previously using one of those cheap plastic little scrubbers you get from the dollar store to brush my tongue but didn't feel like it did much, it was just a routine. A friend of mine suggested a metal tongue scraper and said it was really helping to keep her mouth clean and fresh after a bunch of expensive dental work. Well, shoot....why not? I won't pretend like I know all the scientific benefits behind tongue scraping, but all I know is from the first time, I was sold on it. You simply hold both ends in your hands and gently place the curved groove on the back of your tongue towards your throat, scraping gently down towards the tip of your tongue. You'll be shocked at the amount of goo that comes off! At least I was, and I am a daily tongue brusher! Rinse the muck off between each scraping and your tongue will be clean and neat. 2 points of caution: 1) Be careful going too far back at first. It can trigger your gag reflex so only go back as far as you feel comfortable and work your way back. 2) You have really sensitive large taste buds at the base of your tongue, so do not press and drag too hard. You can use a small amount of pressure, but not too much is needed. You can definitely hurt your tongue that way (I did, and it was not nice). I've noticed that my breath is much fresher for much longer on days when I scrape my tongue with this. (I did a control test with my old plastic brush and this steel scraper, and the steel scraper outperformed by a mile). My mouth felt cleaner and I don't know if this can be proven, but I feel like food tasted better? My morning coffee seemed even more enjoyable after my first round of tongue-scraping. You get two for such a good price and it will last such a long time. Get one for you and your SO. To be honest, all the brushing and flossing, and mouthwash in the world doesn't replace scraping all that gunk off your tongue if you want fresh clean breath. I highly recommend it.
